Sunday Worship

Worship at First Christian, Greenville seeks to bring together the ancient and the modern. It honors the two thousand year worship traditions of the church and attempts to shape them in the context of our "free-church" tradition. We believe that worship should attempt to reach the mind, heart and will of every person. Worship here offers sacred music, pastoral and prophetic preaching, carefully planned liturgy, and the "freedom of the pulpit" that is such an important aspect of our tradition and that has been appreciated by this congregation for more than one hundred years. We are a church that is open to all and closed to none. We want worship to be a time of praise and reverence.

Our worship is shaped by the liturgical calendar year and is traditional in nature. We enjoy worship experiences through the use of hymns, responsive readings and prayers, scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, and musical meditations by our choir.

We worship in a beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows that tell the story of Christ from his birth, through his death and resurrection. Every week, we celebrate Holy Communion together and everyone is welcome to join us in the sacrament. Although our worship is formal, the one thing we hear most often from visitors is how welcome we make them feel.
